7 Bad Things That Happen When You Don’t Moisturize Your Face

Everyone knows that moisturizing your skin is important, but do you know why? The obvious answer is that your skin can get dry, but there are other ill effects that you need to know.

  1. YOU COULD DEVELOP MORE WRINKLES.

That’s right: Leaving moisturizer out of your routine today could lead to deeper wrinkles later on. “When the skin barrier is compromised, which is what we see when it becomes dry, there’s actually a low-grade chronic inflammation that occurs in the skin,” warns dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe. “Low levels of ongoing inflammation ultimately lead to a breakdown of collagen and accelerated aging.”

  1. THE WRINKLES YOU ALREADY HAVE WILL LOOK EVEN WORSE.

Yes, going without moisturizer can make your current lines look, well, less fine. “Dehydrated skin shows all the lines,” says Dr. Bowe. Want them to be less prominent? Dr. Bowe recommends plumping up your skin with a moisturizer containing hyaluronic acid.

  1. YOUR COMPLEXION WILL APPEAR DULL AND FLAKY — ESPECIALLY IF IT’S COLD OUTSIDE.

“In the winter, humidity levels plummet, and the dry air can dehydrate your skin and strip it of lipids, which are part of its protective outer layer — so irritants can enter more easily and cause redness and flaking,” says Debra Jaliman, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City and author of Skin Rules.

  1. IT WILL AGGRAVATE YOUR ACNE.

Sounds counterintuitive, but moisturizer really is your friend if you have blemishes. “Dryness can actually make your acne worse,” says Dr. Debbie Palmer, dermatologist and founder of Replere Skin Care. If you’re afraid of feeling too greasy, pick a moisturizer that suits your needs: “For patients with acne-prone skin, I recommend using an oil-free, fragrance-free, noncomedogenic moisturizer along with their acne regimen.”

  1. YOU LOSE A LAYER OF PROTECTION.

“Many of the most effective skin care ingredients like retinoids, salicyclic acid, and benzoyl peroxide tend to be very drying,” says Dr. Bowe. So when you don’t follow them up with moisturizer, you risk uncomfortable side effects like red, peeling skin. Dr. Bowe adds: “When this happens, most people stop using their powerful products regularly, so they wind up dealing with the side effects without reaping the full benefits.”

  1. YOUR MAKEUP WON’T LOOK SO FLAWLESS.

You know those little lines under your eyes where your concealer creases? Those will look worse if you don’t hydrate your face before applying base makeup. “Makeup sticks to dry areas on the skin and even seeps into fine lines,” warns Dr. Bowe. For best results, she recommends waiting about five minutes before using foundation so your moisturizer or primer can properly absorb. Bonus tip: Use a lip balm before putting on lipstick for long-lasting color.

  1. YOUR SKIN WILL ITCH LIKE CRAZY.

You know that tight feeling your skin has when you’ve just gotten out of the shower? Imagine that — all day long. And if all the other reasons aren’t enough for you to slather on some moisture, just thinking about this should do the trick.

Why Is Moisturizing So Important For You?

“Massage is considered to be an effective method to strengthen the immune system, as it combines essential oil application with touch, entering through the largest organ in our bodies, our skin”
Amy Leigh Mercree

When you’re thirsty, you reach for a glass of water. When your skin is thirsty, a moisturizer gives it the hydration it needs. Moisturizers help to nourish and improve your skin in a number of ways.

1. Replaces some of the oils your skin makes naturally

2. Covers and protect tiny fissures in your skin

3. Creates a layer of soothing protection from environments

4. Helps to slow down the evaporation of your skin’s moisture

5. Moisturizing Helps to Protect Against Environmental Damage

Have you ever noticed that your skin becomes extremely dry and chapped when exposed to cold, dry air? Chapped lips, hands, and cheeks are a common issue during the colder months. This is especially true if you spend lots of time outside. When your body is cold, it tries to conserve heat.

“Be patient. Your skin took a while to deteriorate. Give it some time to reflect a calmer inner state. As one of my friends states on his Facebook profile: “The true Losers in Life, are not those who Try and Fail, but those who Fail to Try.”
Jess C. Scott

Part of this process forces the blood vessels in your skin to constrict, which keeps skin from getting the moisture it needs. As a result, you’re left with dry, red, and irritated skin. Moisturizing regularly helps to replenish your skin’s lost hydration. A thicker moisturizer is best for healthy skin in cooler weather.

Moisturizing Helps to Prevent Aging
Regular moisturizing also helps to nourish your skin in the long term, potentially slowing the signs of aging. At least that’s what an article published in a 2010 issue of the British Journal of Dermatology found. The study compared the number of wrinkles and levels of skin hydration in 122 women over a period of eight years.

“Say good morning to your skin with this enchanting treat.”
Amy Leigh Mercree

The researchers found that on average, a 28 year old woman had a 52% increase in visible wrinkles by the time she was 36 if she had dry skin, compared to a 22% increase in women with well-hydrated skin. This connection between moisturizing and wrinkles comes down to the skin barrier, the outermost layers of skin that help to maintain consistent moisture levels.

As you age, your skin barrier becomes less effective, leading to the types of damage we often associate with aging (including wrinkles). Regular moisturizing (along with adequate sun protection and regular exfoliation) helps to keep skin looking full and radiant.

Moisturizing Helps Control Eczema and Other Skin Conditions: If you are one of the 31.6 million Americans who suffer from some form of eczema, you know that an outbreak of this itchy, irritated skin can quickly ruin your day. Regular moisturizing can be an effective method for preventing eczema outbreaks, as well as soothing them if they do occur.

“Self care is an essential part of a healthy life. Essential oils figure in many at-home remedies to smooth the skin, soothe the spirit, and calm the mind.”
Amy Leigh Mercree

Dry skin is a common eczema trigger. Applying a moisturizer after a shower or bath helps to lock in moisture, improving your skin’s ability to act as a barrier against the outside environment. Avoid moisturizers that contain dyes, perfumes, alcohol, detergents, and other irritating ingredients: these junky chemicals can actually lead to irritation and an even bigger eczema flare-up. Instead, use an all-natural Shea Butter based moisturizer to nourish, soothe, and protect your skin.

Moisturizing Just Feels Great
Is it silly to point out how good it feels to moisturize? We don’t think so! Enjoying the sensation and aroma of a smooth, rich, all-natural moisturizer can be sublime. Applying a luxurious moisturizer at the end of a long bubble bath is the perfect way to relax and unwind at the end of the day.

A sumptuous cream or body butter helps take care of your mind as well as your body, making moisturizing an effective way to care for your overall well being.

Makeup Remover

An informative blog about proper make-up removal.

Not only does Seacret Direct Makeup Remover Wipes contain minerals from the Dead Sea, but it also include Cucumber Extract, Aloe Vera Extract, and Vitamin E to provide hydration and a smooth and soothing sensation.

It is important for people of all ages to take care of their skin. In the hectic modern lives we live, it is often too easy to neglect one’s health and well-being. The state of your skin says a lot about the state of your overall health, and with that in mind we have created a summary of how to properly remove make-up and cosmetics.

At the end of a busy day, it is difficult to resist the urge to go directly to bed without removing your make-up first. This is problematic for a number of reasons. Make-up tends to clog the pores of your skin, which can lead to significant skin problems. Your skin needs a chance to breathe, so it has the opportunity to regenerate itself. If you go to bed at night while still wearing your make-up, you are simply asking for trouble.

You should begin by pulling your hair back and tying it in a ponytail. The best place to begin is with your eye make-up. Using a cotton ball or makeup wipes like Seacret Direct Makeup Remover Wipes that has been moistened with make-up remover, gently remove the make-up.  Be careful to avoid getting it in your eyes.

The next step is to perform a proper facial cleansing. There are a number of excellent products on the market today, so take some time and do some research about each of them. Test a couple of different products, and be sure that you end up with one that is ideal for your skin type. Place a small amount of your chosen cleanser into the palm of your hand, and lather it on your moistened face.

During this stage of your daily cleansing routine, you should pay special attention to cleansing the areas where your make-up was applied. It is best to use lukewarm water, as it will assist in the breakdown of your make-up and will ensure that your cleanser is able to reach its optimal lather. Take your time, and be sure you don’t miss any of the areas where make-up was applied. Rinse with warm water at the appropriate time, and be sure to remove all of the cleanser. When you have completed this step, do it again. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.

Proper facial cleansing is a simple procedure, but if it is not done regularly and in the proper manner your skin can become damaged. As we have said, your skin needs to be able to breath to maintain optimal health and regenerate itself. Try to incorporate a proper cleansing into your bedtime routine. Your skin will thank you for it.

We cleanse, balance nourish and moisturize our face twice a day and add the extra step of exfoliate/ treat (mask) once a week. If you have never exfoliate/ treat (mask) your skin, you will feel a tingling sensation and/or redness due to the product removing the dead skin. Make sure your toner is water base.
